Music can take you on a journey, make you laugh, cry and touch the deepest part of your soul. So can a photograph. I come to photography as a musician, attracted to visual narratives that define an unsuspected beauty in a specific place in time. I am a champion of the overlooked, and see my photography as a way to research, create change and inject some beauty into the world.

Doris, New York
Doris has been going to the beauty parlor for over 50 years. She used to have a bee hive hairstyle in the late sixties and a "fall" and "flip" in the seventies. She brings gifts to "the girls" at the salon and they are happy to see her when she walks in the door at Georgette's in Long Island, New York, where the hairstylists have the most beautiful, longest nails I've ever seen. She loves the ritual of getting her hair done. I should know, she's my mom!

Very touching and moving stories dear Robbie - love the pictures as well :) it shows the beauty inside of these women and that makes it even more amazing. Thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteRobbie I reviewed the entire series as posted so far on your blog and we share similar directions but you are developing as one who capture the essence of this very dear and forgotten subject. I find that you are growing rather quickly with image sensitivity and I am drawn to all of this work.
ReplyDeleteJust great stuff.
Thank you Bob. Coming from such a great photographer as yourself, I am honored to receive your comments and continued support.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bleuet for sharing as well...we are in this together, men and women, to bring light to what has been kept in the dark for too long.
ReplyDeleteHi Robbie
ReplyDeleteYour project is just fantastic and is a very important record of this fading culture. I am sure it will be admired by many many people as you gain recognition for this amazing work.
